Deputy Minister for Interior and Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has responded to explosive allegations concerning an AirMed flight that allegedly transported illicit cargo instead of medical patients.
The allegations were raised by Rev. Fordjour, the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee. According to his claims, intelligence reports suggest that the AirMed flight N823AM, which was purportedly an air ambulance, did not carry any medical patients. Instead, it is suspected of transporting illicit drugs and large sums of U.S. dollars.
Further fueling suspicions, an Antonov An-12B private jet, which had landed on March 12, departed on the same day as the air ambulance. Security analysts have noted this pattern as a potential red flag, warranting further scrutiny.
Government’s Response
Addressing the matter in an interview with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM, Hon. Okletey Terlabi acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations. He emphasized that unlike previous administrations, which might have dismissed such claims without action, President John Dramani Mahama has swiftly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“In times past, people would simply ask for evidence and move on, but today, under President Mahama’s leadership, we are taking action. The National Security apparatus and other relevant authorities have been directed to conduct a full-scale investigation,” he stated.
He further urged Rev. Fordjour to provide any credible evidence he may have to assist in uncovering the truth.
“The President has made it clear that he will not tolerate corruption or illegal activities in the country. This proactive step shows his commitment to transparency and accountability. Now, we wait for the outcome of the investigation,” Hon. Terlabi added.
He has cautioned Rev. Fordjour, advising him to tread carefully, as his recent attacks on the Energy Minister suggest he may be overstepping his boundaries. He emphasized that as a leader and a member of parliament, maintaining credibility is crucial. Once credibility is lost, regaining the trust and respect of the people becomes a daunting challenge.
As the probe unfolds, all eyes remain on the authorities to determine whether these allegations hold any weight and what actions will follow.
