Deputy Interior Minister Larbi Pays Tribute to Late Ayawaso West MP

The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo and Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Teye Larbi, has expressed shock over the death of the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Constituency, Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Mr. Larbi said he was deeply surprised by the news, noting that they had worked together in Parliament not long ago. Although he was aware that his colleague had been unwell, he did not anticipate such an outcome, especially as Mr. Mahama appeared healthy before Parliament adjourned for the Christmas recess.

He described the late MP as a calm and dedicated individual whose passing has created a significant void in Parliament and within the Ayawaso West Constituency. Mr. Larbi said it would be difficult to imagine anyone replacing him but expressed hope that God would grant the constituency unity and that others would emulate the late MP’s character, particularly his calm and respectful nature.

The lawmaker was a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Born in Nima, Accra, on March 17, 1965, Mr Toure first entered Parliament in 2013 after winning the seat in the 2012 elections.

In Parliament, he served in key capacities, notably as the Vice Chairman of the pivotal Energy Committee.

He also served as a member of the Roads and Transport, House, and Private Members’ Bills and Motions committees.
