Ghanaian international Denis Odoi, 37, has signed a free-transfer deal with the Dutch Eredivisie club until the end of the 2025-26 season, with an option to extend for an additional year.

The versatile defender, capable of playing across the backline or as a defensive midfielder, arrives as an immediate reinforcement amid a wave of injuries plaguing the club.
NAC Breda, currently battling to secure their top-flight status, view Odoi’s wealth of experience as a “fighter’s” addition to the squad, with technical director Peter Maas praising his fitness, motivation and tactical acumen after closely monitoring him during his time at Royal Antwerp.
Odoi’s move comes after a period of uncertainty following the expiration of his contract with Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp at the end of the summer transfer window in 2025.
The former Club Brugge stalwart, who had been training with KV Kortrijk to maintain sharpness, was without a club for several months but remained determined to continue at a competitive level.
Maas emphasised the strategic timing, noting that the signing not only addresses current defensive shortages but also positions NAC Breda well ahead of the January transfer window. Odoi has already begun training at the club’s BO Infra Training Complex in Zundert and could feature in upcoming fixtures against Excelsior Rotterdam and Sparta Rotterdam, pending registration.
Born on 27 December 1987 in Antwerp, Belgium, Odoi’s professional journey reads like a roadmap of European football’s mid-tier powerhouses.
Starting in the youth setups of Anderlecht and Genk, he broke through at OH Leuven before stints at Sint-Truiden and Lokeren honed his skills as a tenacious right-back with left-footed precision.
His seven-year spell at Fulham (2015-2022) stands out, where he amassed over 170 appearances across the Premier League, Championship and cup competitions, earning a reputation for leadership and composure under pressure that endeared him to fans as a “Fulham legend.”
A return to Belgium followed, first with Club Brugge (2022-2023), where he won the national title, and then Royal Antwerp (2023-2025), adding a Belgian Cup triumph in 2024.
With over 600 senior appearances under his belt, Odoi’s Eredivisie debut at NAC Breda marks a new chapter, albeit a familiar one in terms of reunions: he will link up with fellow Black Stars teammate Kamal Sowah, the winger who joined Breda earlier this season from Club Brugge.
Their prior collaboration dates back to Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad in Qatar, where Odoi featured in all three group games as a defensive anchor. On the international front, Odoi has earned 27 caps for Ghana since switching allegiance from Belgium in 2015, though his last outing was in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Fans and pundits are already speculating whether this move could reignite his international prospects ahead of potential 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
NAC Breda sit precariously in the Eredivisie relegation scrap, having earned promotion from the Eerste Divisie last season but struggling with consistency and squad depth this campaign.
As Odoi settles in Breda—a city known for its passionate football supporters and vibrant nightlife—the focus shifts to his integration.
Expect him to start on the right flank or centrally, providing the stability NAC desperately needs. For a player who has defied age stereotypes throughout his career, this could be the swansong that keeps him in the spotlight a little longer.
