Davido reacts to Mahama’s comeback after Dr Bawumia concedes 2024 election

Nigerian music sensation Davido has joined a chorus of celebrities in celebrating John Mahama’s electoral success.

The former president of Ghana is set to make a comeback after two previous defeats in the 2016 and 2020 elections. As Ghanaians eagerly anticipate the official confirmation of the election results, Mahama is preparing to reclaim his presidency.

The final declaration from the Electoral Commission is pending, following the concession of defeat by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, during a press conference held on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Bawumia’s concession has ignited a wave of excitement among social media users and public figures alike, including Davido.

The Grammy-nominated artist celebrated the anticipated victory by sharing a photo on X (formerly Twitter), where he is seen holding a plastic cup branded with the NDC logo, reflecting the enthusiasm of Ghanaians during this pivotal moment.

After the elections held on Saturday, December 7, results indicate that John Dramani Mahama has emerged as President-elect, although the official announcement from the Electoral Commission is still awaited.

In his media address, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged his party’s internal results that corroborated Mahama’s significant win, emphasizing that contesting the outcome would be pointless.

“I called President Mahama to congratulate him,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “Ghana’s welfare takes precedence over our political aspirations.”

He also praised the NDC’s strong showing in the parliamentary elections, urging all Ghanaians to come together for the nation’s greater good, prioritizing collective interests over individual or party goals.

Despite some reported incidents of violence during the voting process, with at least two fatalities, Dr. Bawumia’s concession has been widely appreciated as an important move towards preserving peace and stability in Ghana’s democratic process.

As the NDC anticipates a solid mandate for both presidential and parliamentary seats, Ghanaians now await the Electoral Commission’s official confirmation of the election results.
