DANFA, KWEIMAN, AMRAHIA CHIEFS ACCUSE FORMER GOV’T OFFICIALS OF LAND GRABBING, CALL FOR MAHAMA’s INTERVENTION

Traditional leaders from Danfa, Kweiman, and Amrahia are calling on the NDC government to intervene in what they describe as the illegal seizure and sale of their allocated lands by former government officials and a private individual, Clement Gyato.

According to the chiefs, former President Akufo-Addo directed then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on November 25, 2020, to return 40% of government acquired land originally mea

nt for dairy farms but left unused back to them. However, they claim that the agreed boundary demarcations were altered without explanation, reducing their rightful share.

They further allege that some former government officials, in collusion with Clement Gyato, are fraudulently selling portions of the allocated land. The chiefs accuse Clement Gyato of working closely with police officers who have forcefully taken control of the lands and are intimidating them with firearms.

Land originally designed for community development projects including markets, lorry parks, and recreational centers has reportedly been sold, with proceeds allegedly used by police officers and Gyato to build private homes on the lands.

The chiefs also accuse the former Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources of ignoring their appeals, claiming he was complicit in the scheme.

Frustrated by what they see as state-backed land grabbing, the traditional leaders have petitioned the New government, urging President John Dramani Mahama to investigate and take decisive action against all involved in shortchanging them.

Nii Djanie Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV, Chief of Danfa, spoke to the media

Nii Amarh Sango I, Teshie Akwashong Tse, echoed similar concerns, accusing former officials of abusing their political power to seize land without consulting rightful owners. He urged Mahama to intervene.

Nii Ashrifi Ashong Kojo IV, Chief of Amrahia, condemned the intimidation tactics allegedly employed by police and called for urgent government intervention.
