Media personality Daddy Freeze has ignited a fresh wave of controversy with his bold claim that Nigerian pastors do not truly understand scripture.
In a trending video circulating online, Daddy Freeze distinguished between knowing the Bible and truly grasping scripture. According to him, while many pastors can quote the Bible extensively, they lack a deeper, scholarly understanding of its context and origins.
“I believe pastors should apply scholarliness to doctrine. I took my time to study it, and when I say study scripture, I mean study. I have not met a Nigerian pastor that knows scriptures. They might know the Bible, but they don’t know scripture,” he said.
He emphasized that reading popular translations like the King James Version is not enough. True understanding, he argued, requires studying the original texts in their ancient languages and engaging with scholarly consensus on biblical interpretation.
“There is what you call the scholarly consensus… they sat with the papyrus, with the original scriptures and what’s left of it, and agreed on its data. Until you study in the original languages, you don’t know scripture,” he added.
As expected, his remarks drew a flurry of reactions online. While some agreed with his perspective, others strongly disagreed.
One user commented, “I agree with Daddy Freeze on this one. Many pastors don’t even know basic verses—only those that serve their personal interests.”
Another fired back, “So Daddy Freeze is now the ultimate authority on scripture? Some people are just swayed by anything that sounds intellectual.”
A third person weighed in with a spiritual angle, saying, “It’s not just about scripture. Without the Holy Spirit’s guidance, no amount of scholarly study can lead to true understanding.”
