The two separate mining-related cases involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been adjourned to November 12 and December 4, respectively.
In the first case, Wontumi is alleged to have permitted mining activities on his concession at Samreboi without securing the necessary regulatory approvals. The court adjourned the matter to November 12 after the prosecution requested more time to serve the defense team with the required disclosures.
The second case, which involves allegations that Wontumi engaged in mining operations within the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve without authorization, was postponed to December 4. This delay was due to the presiding judge being on leave.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Department has formally discontinued proceedings against the fourth accused, Edward Akuoko, who serves as the General Manager of Akonta Mining, a company owned by Chairman Wontumi.
Mr. Akuoko is now expected to testify as a prosecution witness in the ongoing case.
