Ghanaian comedian Abdul Waris Umaru, popularly known as Comedian Waris, has publicly expressed deep gratitude to Ayisha Modi for gifting him a parcel of land that has allowed him to begin building his own home.
In a heartfelt video message, Waris recounted how Ayisha Modi’s generosity in August 2021 made it possible for him to own property—something he described as a rare achievement given the soaring real estate prices in places like East Legon.
Waris took the opportunity to defend Modi amidst ongoing public criticism of her philanthropic efforts. Some industry insiders have accused Modi of documenting her acts of generosity to potentially use them against recipients if relationships sour. Responding to the backlash, Waris said:“Many people are mocking Ayisha Modi for her actions. I want to make it clear that I am genuinely grateful for everything she has done for me. I stand by her and want to ‘blow the trumpet’ for her generosity.”
The comedian further acknowledged the support he’s received from other Ghanaian celebrities, including Tracey Boakye and singer Efya, noting that his journey in the entertainment industry has been shaped by such meaningful collaborations.
His message also addressed Ayisha Modi’s recent online revelations of her support for award-winning artist Stonebwoy and his family. In an effort to defend herself, Modi shared private messages with Stonebwoy and his wife, Dr. Louisa Ansong, which drew mixed reactions from the public and industry observers.
Waris concluded his message with a note of wisdom and caution, advising benefactors like Modi to be more selective in who they support, while encouraging generosity to continue in the industry.
“It’s not easy to even secure a half-plot of land in areas like East Legon. All I have is my work and loyalty. All shall pass.”
