Come to my aid – Afenyo-Markin cries to colleagues as cholera outbreak in Efutu gets serious

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin is sounding the alarm on a worsening cholera outbreak in his Efutu constituency, particularly in the capital, Winneba, which is a trading hub that attracts people from all walks of life.

The situation is dire, with hospitals overwhelmed and tents being erected to accommodate the influx of patients.

Afenyo-Markin is urging the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to provide immediate support to combat the outbreak. He’s also calling on his fellow MPs to contribute personally to help alleviate the situation, as he would do for them in a similar crisis.

To that end, he’s proposed distributing around GHC 100,000 to the health directorate to bolster their response.

The outbreak has already resulted in 412 suspected cases and three reported deaths, with key health facilities in Winneba struggling to cope with the surge in patients.

Afenyo-Markin’s plea for urgent action highlights the need for a swift and coordinated response to prevent further escalation of the outbreak.
