Legendary singer and former member of the iconic Sappers International Band, Collins Wood, has stirred debate with his recent statement “For a country to develop, you need to plan, but Africans don’t plan.”
Speaking on Ahotor Mmre with Obaapa Janee, the veteran musician emphasized the need for strategic, long-term planning to ensure Africa’s growth and development.
Using Denmark as an example, Collins Wood pointed out how the European country has invested in efficient systems that benefit its citizens.
“In Denmark, people go to the hospital for free. Why? Because they planned for it. They structured their economy in a way that ensures citizens don’t struggle for basic needs.
In Africa, we have the resources, but we don’t plan well, and that’s why we are always struggling,” he explained
“Look at our hospitals—people can’t even afford basic healthcare. If we had planned well like Denmark, we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
It’s not too late, but we must wake up now. If we don’t plan today, we’ll keep complaining tomorrow.”
Collins Wood remained firm on his stance, urging African governments to prioritize proper planning over short-term political gains.
“If we don’t change our mindset and start planning for the future, we will keep watching other countries succeed while we struggle,” he concluded.
