Renowned musician and former member of the legendary Sappers International Band, Collins Wood, has announced his decision to join the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to advocate for elderly musicians.
This follows a distressing experience he had while assisting elderly people in James Town.
Collins Wood, who has been actively supporting senior citizens through his NGO on Ahotor Mmre with Obaapa Janee, shared his emotional encounter.
“I went to James Town to help the elderly, and while there, I saw a former musician whose current state was very heartbreaking,” I don’t want to mention the name, he revealed.
“It came to my mind—why won’t I join MUSIGA to help elderly musicians since I was already doing that with my NGO?
His statement has sparked renewed conversations about the struggles faced by ageing musicians in Ghana.
Many veteran artists, after years of contributing to the country’s rich musical heritage, often find themselves in difficult situations due to financial instability and lack of structured support.
Collins Wood’s decision to collaborate with MUSIGA is expected to bring more attention to this pressing issue.
His influence and dedication to charitable work could push the union to implement stronger welfare policies for retired musicians.
With Collins Wood now actively involved, will this mark a turning point for veteran musicians in need? The entertainment industry will be watching closely.
