The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has announced that about 27,000 motorised spraying machines and 89,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) will soon be distributed to cocoa farmers across the country to support their operations.
Speaking during an engagement with cocoa farmers from the Abuakwa North and Fanteakwa South Districts in the Eastern Region on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo emphasised COCOBOD’s continued commitment to assisting Ghanaian cocoa farmers despite current sectoral challenges.
“COCOBOD has decided that, in spite of all the challenges, all the interventions we are putting in place to assist the cocoa farmers, we will continue to do them. We will supply free fertilizer and insecticide.
“As we speak with you, we have procured 27,000 spraying machines to be given to farmers. We have also been able to buy 89,000 PPEs to be given to farmers,” he stated.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo further revealed plans to expand educational support for cocoa farmers’ children.
“The government has also said that because of Free SHS, the scholarship that we used to give to cocoa farmers, we should repackage it and take it rather to the tertiary level to make it free tertiary education for the children of cocoa farmers at that level of education.
“There is a committee already in place working behind the scenes, and very soon they will come and announce the modalities to everybody,” he added.
