The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has firmly dismissed circulating reports claiming an announcement has been made regarding the producer price of cocoa. In a statement issued on April 9, COCOBOD clarified that no decision has been reached on the matter, as the necessary structures to facilitate such a decision are currently absent.
The statement emphasized that COCOBOD’s Board of Directors, a key body required to approve any adjustments to cocoa producer prices, has yet to be constituted. Additionally, the Producer Price Review Committee—responsible for analyzing economic factors and determining new producer price levels—has not been formed. These prerequisites make any recent claims of a price announcement unfounded and misleading.
“In light of these circumstances, it is impossible for any announcement on the producer price of cocoa to be made at this time,” the statement read. COCOBOD reiterated its commitment to transparency and called on the public and media to disregard unverified reports. The Board assured stakeholders that any updates regarding cocoa pricing would be communicated officially through authorized channels.
COCOBOD’s response comes at a time when speculation about cocoa pricing has heightened due to global economic challenges and the importance of cocoa as a cornerstone of Ghana’s economy. The organization remains dedicated to ensuring fair pricing for farmers and safeguarding the industry’s long-term sustainability.
Stakeholders, including cocoa farmers, are encouraged to remain calm and rely solely on information disseminated through official COCOBOD platforms to avoid being misled by rumours.
