Former Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor is open to encouraging his sons to represent Ghana at the senior level if the opportunity arises.
Akonnor’s elder son, Charles Jesaja Herrmann, 25, has joined German lower-division side FC Bocholt, while his younger son, Charles Kwablan Herrmann, has signed with Belgian top-flight club Cercle Brugge.
Akonnor played a hands-on role in facilitating his younger son’s transfer to Belgium, describing it as a key milestone in his career. Despite his sons being born and raised in Germany, Akonnor is willing to guide them toward representing Ghana if the chance arises.
“It’s difficult to convince them to come to Ghana because they grew up in Germany, but of course, if the need be or if the opportunity arises, we will be able to make that decision,” Akonnor said.
His younger son, Charles Kwablan Herrmann, is a highly regarded winger who excelled with Germany’s youth teams, winning the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup and UEFA U-17 European Championship. He recently transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
