CID Trains Detectives in Modern Crime Investigation Techniques

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is training detectives to use modern investigative tools as part of efforts to improve crime detection and investigation.

CID Director-General, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, says the initiative is aimed at strengthening the department’s capacity to respond effectively to emerging criminal activities and evolving security challenges.

She noted that the increasing use of technology in criminal operations requires investigators to acquire new skills and adopt modern techniques to support their work.

COP Donkor said the CID is planning to strengthen its digital forensics capabilities to enable detectives to examine electronic evidence and obtain relevant information to support criminal investigations.

She added that intelligence gathering would also be enhanced to help investigators gather actionable information, identify suspects and improve the effectiveness of investigations.

The CID also intends to deepen collaboration with regional cybercrime units to promote information sharing and coordination in tackling cybercrime and other technology-related offences. These measures are expected to strengthen the department’s investigative capacity and improve its response to emerging criminal threats.
