American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to a charge of affray at Southwark Crown Court in London over his involvement in a 2023 nightclub altercation.
Brown entered the guilty plea during a court hearing on Friday, admitting to using or threatening unlawful violence during the incident at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. Prosecutors subsequently dropped more serious charges, including attempted grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.
The case stems from an incident in February 2023 in which music producer Abraham Diaw alleged that Brown attacked him with a glass bottle during an altercation at the nightclub. Prosecutors described the attack as “vicious and unprovoked.”
Brown and his co-defendant, vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, are scheduled to be sentenced on October 26. Under UK law, the offence of affray carries a maximum prison sentence of three years.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, known for a string of chart-topping hits, has faced several legal challenges throughout his career. His latest guilty plea has once again drawn international attention as fans and industry observers await the court’s sentencing decision and its potential impact on his future professional commitments.
