Chris Brown Charged in UK Over Alleged 2023 Nightclub Assault

Grammy-winning artist Chris Brown has been formally charged in the United Kingdom with allegedly assaulting a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023, British prosecutors announced Thursday.

Brown, 36, faces one count of causing grievous bodily harm. He was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, where he was staying ahead of an upcoming tour.

According to The Sun, which first reported the incident, producer Abe Diaw claimed Brown assaulted him without provocation at the Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district in February 2023. At the time, Brown was touring the UK.

The tabloid said it learned of Brown’s presence in the country on Wednesday and contacted authorities to verify whether he was in custody. Police subsequently traveled to Manchester and made the arrest.

Brown remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Representatives for the singer have not responded to requests for comment.

Known to fans as “Breezy,” Brown rose to fame in 2005 and has since built a successful career with hits like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.” He won his first Grammy in 2011 for F.A.M.E. and earned another in early 2025 for 11:11 (Deluxe).

Brown is slated to begin a global tour next month alongside Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller, starting in Europe before heading to North America in July.
