The Health Promotion Officer at the Abrafi Women and Children’s Hospital in Techiman in the Bono East Region, Madam Gladys Murphy, has described cholera as a serious and highly infectious disease that requires urgent attention.
Speaking in an interview, Madam Murphy cautioned that cholera must be treated promptly to prevent severe complications and possible loss of life.
She explained that the disease spreads rapidly, especially in communities with poor sanitation, and urged the public to take preventive measures seriously.
Madam Murphy emphasized that proper sanitation, good personal hygiene, and the consumption of safe drinking water remain key measures in preventing the spread of cholera.
She advised residents to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility whenever they experience symptoms such as frequent diarrhoea and vomiting, rather than resorting to self-medication.
Madam Murphy further appealed to the public to cooperate with health authorities and adhere to health education directives to help prevent any possible cholera outbreak in the municipality.
