Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Turbulent Three-Month Spell

Chelsea have parted company with head coach Liam Rosenior after just three and a half months in charge, bringing his brief and turbulent spell at Stamford Bridge to an abrupt end.

The 41-year-old, who arrived from Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg in January on a long-term contract reportedly lasting until 2032, oversaw only 23 games before being dismissed on Wednesday.

During his tenure, he secured 11 wins but also suffered 10 defeats, with the team sliding into a disastrous run of form that included five consecutive Premier League losses without scoring a single goal — the club’s worst such sequence in 114 years.

The final straw came after a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Brighton, which left Chelsea seventh in the table and facing a genuine threat of missing out on Champions League qualification next season. Rosenior had publicly described his players’ performance in that match as “indefensible” and “unacceptable,” comments that reportedly drew backlash from within the squad.

In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed they had parted ways with Rosenior and his staff, thanking them for their efforts while announcing that academy coach Calum McFarlane would step in as interim head coach for the remainder of the campaign.

McFarlane is set to take charge for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley, with the club indicating a more thorough search for a permanent replacement will follow at the end of the season.

This latest managerial change underscores the ongoing instability at Chelsea under their current ownership group, with Rosenior becoming the latest in a rapid turnover of head coaches. His short reign, lasting just over 100 days, marks one of the briefest for a non-caretaker manager in the club’s history and leaves the Blues in a state of uncertainty as they attempt to salvage what remains of their campaign.
