Director of the Celestial International STEM School Complex, Mr. Harry Amago has reiterated the need to deepen the knowledge base of students in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He explains that, AI has become the driving force behind development, and the Ghanaian Child cannot be left out.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly changing global educational systems, and it is therefore critical for basic schools in Ghana to integrate AI into basic education in schools, to give children a heads up, and a boost into greatness in the competitive world environment.
“As Ghana strives to improve upon its educational standards and equip its students with the skills necessary to thrive in the 21st century, AI offers powerful tools that can enhance learning outcomes, personalize education, and prepare students for the future.” He said.
“This would also bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, as well as, putting both the bright student and the slow learner on an equal pedestal.
Mr. Harry Amago was speaking with Ahotor 92.3fm news at the sidelines during the graduation ceremony of the School at Ashiaman, in the Greater Accra region.
The 32- year-old school has received several awards and trained many prominent citizens in all walks of life.
The Celestial International STEM School can boast of many distinguished clubs and demonstrated their prowess to the admiration of the teaming guests at the ceremony.
The clubs include Taekwando, Brass band, Swimming, Cadet, Reading and Ballet clubs.
42 students in all graduated at the ceremony, and well-prepared to face the next level of their education.
According to Mr. Amago his passion for the infusion of AI in the educational system of the STEM school is due to its potential to significantly improve the learning outcomes.
He said, traditional teaching methods often struggle to address the varied learning needs of each student and normally lumps them together.
“AI training tools can be adapted to each student’s learning process, speed, and the level of their individual understanding.
Mr. Amago disclosed in the interview that, his school for instance, has adopted an AI-driven tutoring systems that provides real-time feedback that helps students to understand the complex issues and theories easily.
“This personalised approach, he said, ensures that no student is left behind, thereby improving overall academic performance”
He disclosed that, the AI tools generate lesson notes for the teachers, assist the students in their home assignments, and reduces the phobia certain students have about certain subjects.
‘This boosts the confidence of the students and it is not surprising that, the School has won many competitive awards. He added.
When asked the preparedness of the students in the next level of their education, Mr. Amago confidently said, “
“In the near future, job market will be dominated by technology and automation, so it is crucial that Ghanaian students are prepared for this reality by integrating AI into basic education.
“Therefore, exposing the children at this early age will not only make them comfortable with technology but, also inspire them to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
Also, AI he said, can be used to teach coding, robotics (which the school can already boast of), and other essential digital skills, ensuring that Celestial International School STEM students are competitive, not only in the local market, but in the global job environment as well.
Aside the Artificial Intelligence craze, the school’s various clubs entertained and demonstrated their skills.
After all, all study without play, makes children dull.
