    The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, has been destroyed by unknown individuals. A source close to the police revealed that they received information about the incident and promptly rushed to the scene. “By the time we got there, the damage had already been done,” the source said. The entire statue has been toppled and destroyed, with the head to the knee area smashed. The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 am on January 13, 2025. Unveiled on November 6, 2024, to honour the former president, the statue received repairs in December 2024 after suffering noticeable damage. A gaping hole at the back of the left leg sparked widespread speculation about the cause of the damage, with some residents suspecting deliberate vandalism and others attributing it to possible structural defects. Eyewitnesses reported that the repairs were carried out on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, around 4:00 pm by two men and a woman.   • 6 arrested in connection with lynching of prison officer in Kasoa

    Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal lynching of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a prison officer stationed at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison. The tragic incident occurred on 29th September 2024 at Kasoa Iron City. The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed that four females and two males have been taken into custody. The suspects have been remanded as investigations into the killing continue.   • O’Reilly student murder: Deceased to be buried on October 18

    The family of O’Reilly student who was murdered by his schoolmate has fixed October 18, 2024 for his funeral. His distraught father, Enock Bortey Sackey tells Ahotor News the family decision is as a result of progress of the case at the La District Court. In a turn of event in the Republic Vs Godwin Mawuli case, Prosecutor, Paul Osei Adjei said the duplicate docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office. He indicated that, due to procedural requirements, it will pass through the Regional Office and Headquarters before reaching its final destination. To expedite the process, the investigator has been tasked with personally following up on the matter, given its significant public interest. In a stern address to the father of the deceased Edward Bortey Sackey, the judge emphasized that the docket preparation is complete and has been forwarded. The judge urged him not to slack off, advising him to maintain pressure on the police to ensure progress in the case. The accused, Godwin Mawuli, has been remanded for two weeks again, and the case has been adjourned until October 21, 2024. The judge urged Gordon Mawuli to get a legal representation.
