Essien, now assistant manager at FC Nordsjaelland, played under Ancelotti at Chelsea in the 2009/2010 season and impressed with his consistency, versatility, and composure in crucial games.
Ancelotti listed Essien alongside other world-class midfielders, including Andrea Pirlo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Frank Lampard, Xabi Alonso, Casemiro, Gattuso, Vidal, Ballack, and Seedorf, as players who made his coaching job easier.
Essien’s time at Chelsea was a highlight of the club’s history, with the Blues securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield in the 2009/2010 season. Ancelotti praised Essien’s energy, tactical intelligence, and ability to perform in high-stakes matches, which left a lasting impression on him.
