Calling for closure of schools is hypocritical and a lazy mans approach – Educationist

An Educationist, Counselor Daniel Fenyi has rubbished the reasons being given for the closure of schools in the country after a few of them recorded incidence of coronavirus infection.

He explains that, there are over 800 second cycle institutions dotted around the country, and therefore less than 8 of them recording infection cannot be a reason to close down the rest of the schools.

Some individual and bodies like Kofi Bentil of IMANI, Angel Carbonou (NAGRAT) and others who are calling the government to close down schools but are not advocating suspension of the Electoral Commission’s Voter Registration exercise are hypocrites.

The Educationist sarcastically called for the closure of all police stations, banks, Parliament, hospitals and all state institutions including the Flagstaff House as all, since these institutions have all recorded incidence of covid-19.

According to Mr Fenyi, to “close down schools due to few cases is a lazy man’s approach in curbing the pandemic and brings to the fore, those who refuse to think outside the box.

Speaking on Ahotor92.3fm midday news, Mr Fenyi noted the schools are the safest place to stay now, explaining that, the larger society is recording thousand (1,000) cases a day, and questioned the rationale for bringing the students into such an infected society.

He described as unfortunate the calls for the closure of the educational institutions without any alternative, and that to him, is myopic and unacceptable.

The Counsellor sees the boarding houses  as a form of “isolation” which would keep them from the ‘polluted’ general society, but rather called on the government to ensure the provisions of the needed logistics to the schools  as promised.
