CAF announce 75% increase in the Prize Money for the Winner of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship

The winner will now receive USD 3.5 million from USD2M from the 2023 edition.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced a huge upward increment in the Prize Money for the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship “CHAN” Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024, AhotorSports can confirm.

This reflects a 15% rise from 60% in the prize money for the last winners of TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Algeria 2022Senagal were eventual winners.

Statement on CAF’s X account read: CAF has announced a 75% increase in the Prize Money for the Winner of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship “CHAN” Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024. The winner will now receive USD 3.5 million. The total prize money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 has been increased to USD 10.4 million, which is an increase of 32%.

The decision is in line with CAF’s careful strategy to increase the commercial value of its African competitions as the tournament has seen steady increases in the Prize Money for the past two editions under the current leadership led by Dr Patrice  Motsepe.

Figures from the last edition

The last edition’s winners Senegal received $2million compared to the US$1,250,000 received by Morocco in 2021.

The total prize money allocated for the 2023 tournament was increased to US$ 7,900,000 from the US$ 5,450,000 that was paid to all the countries that participated in the 2021 edition.

The runners-up pocketed US$800,000 while the third and fourth-placed teams took home $500,000 each.

The four sides that failed to progress beyond the quarter-finalists also received $400,000 each while the two countries that finished second in the groups of three teams earned $300,000 each, the same amount as countries that finish third in groups of four teams.

This year’s edition of the Championship will feature eighteen (18) countries, including the hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from February 1st to 28th, 2025.

The list of the teams are Morocco, Guinea, Senegal Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia, Angola and Madagascar.
