C/R: Ghetto boy burnt to death in suspected arson attack at Assin Fosu

A 26-year-old man known as “Efutu,” whose real name was Barron Guda, died after a fire razed his wooden ghetto structure in Assin Fosu, Central Region, in what residents suspect was an arson attack.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Thursday, January 8, 2026. Ghana National Fire Service personnel and police rushed to the scene around 7:00 a.m. following a distress call from locals. They found Efutu’s body charred beyond recognition inside the wreckage.

Residents voiced suspicions of foul play, pointing to prior threats from nearby mechanics. One claimed, “It’s no surprise. The fitters warned they would burn him or drive him out. That’s why we believe they intentionally set the place on fire,” accusing Efutu of stealing from their workshops.

Others, however, suggested the fire might have been accidental. They noted Efutu had been acting erratically while smoking earlier, possibly igniting the blaze with a lit cigarette.

Efutu’s body has been taken to Assin Fosu St. Xavier Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The Assin Fosu Police Command is investigating, but no arrests have been made.
