Businessman Joseph Badu Boateng Files Petition Against Offinso North MP for Alleged Attempted Murder

Prominent Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Joseph Badu Boateng, also known as “Dada Joe,” has filed a formal petition against Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Member of Parliament for Offinso North, accusing him of an attempted murder. The petition, submitted to the Ghana Police Service and the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin, details a chilling account of an alleged attack on Mr. Boateng during a health walk event in Nkenkaasu on April 18, 2025.

The health walk, organized by Mr. Boateng as part of an Easter celebration aimed at fostering unity within the Offinso North Constituency, turned into a harrowing experience. According to Mr. Boateng, he had been informed of logistical challenges in Akumadan and decided to assist personally. While returning to Nkenkaasu, his vehicle was abruptly blocked by a white Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, reportedly driven by Daniel Opoku, alias Opoku Ware, under the alleged directive of Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah.

After manoeuvring past the blockade, Mr. Boateng faced an even graver threat. Gunshots were fired from the residence of the MP, with one bullet shattering the rear windshield of his car. The shooter was identified as Police Inspector Awuah Ernest, allegedly serving as Dr. Kyei Asamoah’s bodyguard. Eyewitnesses, including media personnel at the scene, believe the shots were deliberately aimed at Mr. Boateng, heightening suspicions of a premeditated attempt on his life.

In his petition, Mr. Boateng described the ordeal as a politically motivated attack designed to intimidate him and potentially cause harm. He submitted photographic and video evidence to support his claims and has called for an impartial and thorough investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked outrage across the constituency, with many expressing concerns about rising political violence and its potential to undermine democratic principles. Civil society groups and residents have joined calls for justice, emphasizing the need to hold all individuals involved accountable, regardless of their political status.

As the case unfolds, the Ghana Police Service and parliamentary authorities are under pressure to address the issue promptly, ensuring transparency and fairness in their investigations. For now, the constituency and the nation await the outcome, hoping for a resolution that reinforces trust in the rule of law and the sanctity of human life.
