Burna Boy Claims His Version of ‘Laho’ Is the Original

Burna Boy has opened up about the release of ‘Laho II’, his latest collaboration with Shallipopi, asserting that his version is actually the original.

The remix of Shallipopi’s breakout hit ‘Laho’ dropped on April 25, 2025, sparking reactions from fans online. Addressing the buzz, the Grammy-winning artist took to Instagram to share the backstory behind the track.

According to Burna Boy, ‘Laho II’ was recorded before Shallipopi’s solo version. However, it couldn’t be released at the time due to clearance issues that conflicted with his other scheduled releases.

“So after all these years y’all still don’t know me enough?” Burna Boy wrote. “If this ‘Laho’ was a remix, I’d go first, lol. This was actually the original version. It just couldn’t be cleared in time for the release Shallipopi had planned. So he dropped the remix first. The original—Shallipopi ft Burna Boy LAHO 2—drops today at 12am.”

The collaboration comes on the heels of the original track’s growing success, which is quickly positioning it as Afrobeats’ first global smash of 2025.

Burna Boy first introduced ‘Laho II’ with a surprise performance alongside Shallipopi during his sold-out show at Stade de France in Paris. The duo followed up with another joint performance at Burna’s historic concert at Co-op Arena in Manchester.

The Nigerian superstar has been active on the remix scene lately, also featuring on Joé Dwèt Filé’s ‘4 Kampé II’, which he performed during recent tour stops.

With Burna Boy now on ‘Laho II’, fans are optimistic that his global reach will propel the track to even greater heights. There’s also speculation that the song could be included as a bonus track on his upcoming eighth studio album, ‘No Sign of Weakness’.
