Breaking News: GFA president Kurt Okraku in contention

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku is in serious contention for a CAF vice-presidency seat as President Patrice Motsepe is under pressure to enhance Anglophone representation in African football leadership.

Okraku’s potential promotion comes in the wake of global discontent among Anglophone federations, who were completely left out of the most recent FIFA Council elections.

Having no English-speaking African representative included in FIFA’s highest governing council calls for balance in CAF’s executive structure have been strengthened.

Informants within CAF state that a minimum of two Anglophone presidents will be appointed as vice presidents, of whom Okraku is a prime candidate in their list of preferences.

He is a contender for his presiding over the Ghanaian game, his fine connections within the CAF structure, and his active involvement in the recent attempts to develop Ghanaian football.

The demand for Anglophone representation has been a major topic of debate, especially since the resignation of CAF First Vice-President Augustin Senghor.

Senghor’s exit presents Motsepe with an opportunity to remake his leadership team, including that of the so-called Francophone dominance of African football administration.

Besides Okraku, Liberia’s Mustapha Raji and Ethiopia’s Isayas Jira Bosho are also contenders.

However, AfricaSoccer.com sources believe that Okraku’s previous performance and strategic alliances in the West African sub-region can be a strong point for him.

As CAF prepares to finalize its leadership model, Motsepe’s decisions will be closely monitored.

Whether Okraku is or isn’t appointed, the next couple of days will be critical in deciding the direction of African football leadership power dynamics.
