On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Ahotor FM made history in the ongoing quarter-final of it’s Academic Showdown. The event, held in partnership with the Tema West Education Directorate, brought together two remarkable schools: Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf and Sakumono TWMA Junior High School. The competition aimed to promote inclusion and academic excellence in an atmosphere that celebrated diversity.
The showdown was fiercely contested, with both schools showcasing their knowledge and skills. Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf held their own, engaging Sakumono TWMA JHS in a close battle throughout the contest. By the end, Sakumono TWMA JHS managed to secure the win with 27 points, narrowly defeating Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf, who earned an impressive 22.5 points. The mere 4.5-point difference underscored the determination and capability of the contestants from both sides.
Despite the loss, the contestants from Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf were elated to have participated in such a groundbreaking event. Their joy and pride resonated with the sentiment expressed by Marlee Matlin, “The only thing I can’t do is hear. Everything else is there for the taking.” The students of Tetteh Ocloo showed that they are indeed ready to take on any challenge, hearing or not.
Ahotor FM, in its congratulatory message, commended the outstanding performance of Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf and expressed eagerness to see them in future competitions. Their participation has opened doors for more inclusive academic competitions, inspiring others in the process.
