Break the Code Capture the Flag (BrCTF) cybersecurity competition has announced plans to train one million young people in practical cybersecurity skills and connect them to employment opportunities to help address unemployment in Ghana.
The initiative seeks to equip young people with hands-on competencies in cybersecurity while creating opportunities for them to demonstrate their skills and access career opportunities in the technology sector.
BrCTF, Ghana’s annual Capture the Flag cybersecurity competition, was launched in 2023 and is held every October in line with Cybersecurity Awareness Month. It provides a platform for cybersecurity professionals, students and technology enthusiasts to test their abilities, share knowledge and develop practical skills in the field.
The 2026 edition brought together young talents and technology partners for a three-day programme focused on practical cybersecurity competitions, career development and employment opportunities.
Speaking to the media at the event, BrCTF Programmes Lead, Felix Boateng, said the initiative was designed to provide young people with the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and develop their potential in cyberspace.
He explained that the organisers intend to expand the programme significantly, with a target of training one million cybersecurity talents and connecting them to international partners.
According to him, the strategy would help bridge the gap between skills development and employment by creating pathways for trained young people to access opportunities beyond Ghana.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak, also highlighted the importance of cybersecurity training to Ghana’s development, particularly in preparing young people for opportunities in the technology-driven global economy.
He noted that equipping the youth with practical digital skills could contribute to national development while preparing them to respond to emerging technological challenges.
Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Smile Gavua, commended the organisers for the initiative, stressing its potential to benefit learners and contribute to the country’s future.
He underscored the importance of exposing young people to practical technology skills that could strengthen their capabilities and prepare them for opportunities in the evolving digital economy.
