Ghana’s Black Stars have suffered a setback ahead of their upcoming international friendlies as forwards Brandon Thomas-Asante and Inaki Williams have both withdrawn from the squad due to injuries sustained during their recent club matches.
The duo will not be available for the games against Austria in Vienna on March 27 and Germany in Stuttgart on March 30, which serve as important preparations for Ghana’s campaign toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Brandon Thomas-Asante, who plays for Coventry City, featured in his side’s 3-0 victory over Swansea City but was forced off in the 62nd minute after picking up a knock, with Josh Eccles replacing him.
Medical assessments confirmed the injury would prevent him from joining the national team camp. Similarly, Inaki Williams started and completed the full match for Athletic Bilbao in their win over Real Betis, yet subsequent scans revealed he had sustained a knock that ruled him out of the trip.
In response to the withdrawals, coach Otto Addo has issued a late call-up to Hamburger SV forward Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer to bolster the squad. This adjustment comes shortly after Addo named his initial 26-man group, which included several debutants and returning stars like Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew.

The losses of Thomas-Asante and Williams represent a blow to Ghana’s attacking options for these high-profile fixtures, though the team will look to adapt as they continue their build-up under Addo.
