The Member of Parliament for Keta constituency, Hon Dzudzorli Kwame Gakpey says reopening of borders is a step in the right direction but the government could have provided relief packages
According to him, the closure of the borders negatively affected the living standards, capital and economic standard of the people
Speaking this morning, March 28 on Adekye Mu Nsem hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu, the Keta lawmaker stated, “the only issue now is how to resuscitate affected people to be able to go back to business”
“In opening the borders as part of the measures, we were thinking the government could have provided relief packages for people who have lost their businesses or provide soft loans revamp their businesses. So, something of social intervention could have been factored but we are not hearing from the government in terms of social interventions for people who have suffered for 2years due to the closure of borders” he explained
His comment follows the announcement of the president Nana Addo Danquah yesterday on the reopening of land and sea borders after two years of closure as part of measures taken against the spread of coronavirus
The president stated that, “fully vaccinated travellers will be allowed entry through the land and sea borders without negative PCR test result from the country of origin. Citizens and foreign residents in Ghana who are not fully vaccinated will have to produce a negative 48-hour PCR test result and will be offered vaccination on arrival”
