Bono East Police Warn Tricycle Riders Against Distractions and Criminal Collusion

The Deputy Bono East Regional Police Commander, ACP Stephen Boadu, has cautioned tricycle riders, popularly known as Pragya riders, in Techiman to avoid distractions while operating their vehicles, describing such behaviour as a major contributor to the frequent road accidents recorded in the area.

He identified the use of mobile phones while riding and the playing of excessively loud music when conveying passengers as dangerous practices that must be stopped to improve road safety.

ACP Boadu gave the advice while addressing Pragya riders at their annual gathering in Techiman. He stressed the importance of respecting other road users, including motorists and pedestrians, to ensure safer roads for all.

According to him, the conduct of some riders has become a source of concern to the general public, prompting repeated complaints from motorists and pedestrians. He therefore urged leaders of the rider associations to intensify engagement with their members and strengthen education on road safety regulations and responsible riding.

The Deputy Regional Commander further advised riders to manage their workload during the busy Christmas season, cautioning against excessive stress and fatigue, which could compromise service delivery and increase the risk of accidents.

Additionally, ACP Boadu warned that the Police have received intelligence reports suggesting that some Pragya riders are allegedly colluding with criminals to rob passengers of their money and personal belongings. He assured the public that the Police have deployed officers across the region to curb such criminal activities and will take firm action against any rider found involved in crime during the festive period.
