Black Stars Players and Officials Participate in FIFA Briefing Sessions on Refereeing Updates and Sporting Integrity Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Ghana Football Association Integrity Unit, in collaboration with FIFA, has held mandatory briefing sessions for players and technical officials of the senior national team, the Black Stars. These sessions focused on the latest refereeing law changes and reinforced commitments to sporting integrity as Ghana prepares for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The briefings covered recent International Football Association Board rule changes, including stricter measures against time-wasting such as visual countdowns for throw-ins and goal kicks, tighter substitution and treatment protocols, new powers for VAR on corner kicks, hydration breaks, and red cards for discriminatory behavior or protesting decisions by leaving the field of play.

They also included education on identifying and rejecting match-fixing approaches, with a strong zero-tolerance policy on manipulation. FIFA’s Integrity Task Force emphasized awareness and reporting tools delivered directly to the players.

These sessions form part of FIFA’s broader preparations, including workshops for participating teams and officials to ensure consistency across the tournament. The Black Stars have qualified for the 2026 World Cup and are currently in a training camp in the USA under coach Carlos Queiroz, where the team is building momentum ahead of their opening matches. The briefings are an essential part of their final preparations.

GFA officials stressed the importance of compliance and professionalism, equipping the squad with the knowledge needed to navigate the high-stakes environment of the world’s biggest football tournament. Photos from the sessions show players and staff actively engaged in the presentations.

This proactive approach reflects FIFA’s push for a clean, fair, and exciting 2026 World Cup, with strengthened integrity safeguards for players, officials, and all stakeholders involved.
