Coach, Otto Addo has stepped down from his role as the leader of the Black Stars technical team with immediate effect.
This decision comes after the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay on Friday, December 2.
Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored twice in the first half to secure a 2-0 win for Uruguay, with the strikes coming after Andre Ayew missed a penalty which would have given Ghana the lead.
The defeat ended Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the knock-out stage, which has also signaled the end of Addo’s spell in charge.
Otto Addo before the start of the World Cup hinted that he will step down from his job after the competition regardless of Ghana’s performance.
“I & my family are happy in Germany. I said I would step down after the World Cup even if we’re world champions after the tournament. I’ve resigned from my role as Ghana coach.”
‘‘At the moment I and my family see our future in Germany, and I like my role at Dortmund, and we are very happy there. Otto Addo told the press in his post-match interview.
Addo had initially taken the head coach position on an interim basis in February after Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac was sacked after a group stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars secured qualification to Qatar under Addo’s leadership by winning a playoff against Nigeria, which led to the Ghana Football Association extending his contract until December.
Ghana finished bottom of Group H on three points, after beating South Korea but losing to Portugal and Uruguay.
