Black Stars management committee members are working without pay – Sports minister reveals

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has revealed that members of the newly formed Black Stars Management Committee are working without pay.

This decision comes after the previous committee, led by Mark Addo, was dissolved by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) [2).

The new committee, chaired by Dr. Randy Abbey, includes notable figures such as former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, who serves as Vice Chairman and oversees player relations. Other members include Samuel Aboabire and Moses Armah, who handle matchday activities and operations, and Richard Nsenkyire, who takes care of special duties related to the team.

Minister Adams confirmed that the government is not providing any financial compensation to the committee members.

However, he hinted that a reward might be considered if Ghana qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“If we qualify for the World Cup, then the government will make a decision on what they must be given as a reward,” he stated.

Although the committee members are not receiving payment, the government is covering their accommodation and meals. Minister Adams acknowledged their sacrifices, saying, “For now, they are all doing a sacrificial job for the team.”

Interestingly, Minister Adams emphasized that if the committee members deserve payment, they must provide a clear justification for it.

He stressed the importance of accountability, noting that funds provided by FIFA or the state must come with a clear explanation for their utilization.
