Black Stars Hit New Low In FIFA Rankings After AFCON Qualifier Struggles
The Black Stars of Ghana have suffered a steep drop in the latest FIFA World Rankings, falling three places to 73rd globally after a string of poor performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In October’s edition of the rankings released , Ghana Black Stars slid from 70th with 1360 points to 73rd with 1338 points.
This decline follows disappointing results, including a goalless draw at home against Sudan and a surprising 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture in Libya.
Sudan now sits second in Group F with seven points, while Ghana teeters on the brink of missing out on AFCON qualification, with just two points from four games.
The October rankings come on the heels of a six-place drop in September, when Ghana lost at home to Angola and drew with Niger.
The Black Stars have now dropped a total of nine places over the last two months, failing to secure a single win in their last four matches.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s resurgence has seen them rise 10 places to 110th in the world, marking their biggest jump in nearly a decade.
Despite the setbacks, Ghana remains 14th in the African rankings, where Morocco leads the continent at 13th globally, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria , Algeria, Coted’Ivoire and Mali .
