Black Stars Vow to Bounce Back After AFCON Qualification Failure – Stephen Appiah

The Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Stephen Appiah, has revealed that the playing body is deeply disappointed after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana, a four-time African champion, finished at the bottom of their group with just three points, having recorded three defeats and three draws. The team’s inability to secure a spot in the tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco, has left the players and technical team reeling.

However, with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, Appiah, who captained the Black Stars to their historic World Cup debut in Germany, is confident that the team will bounce back stronger. Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar in Matchday five and six games of the qualifiers.

“The players, the technical team, and everyone around the team is disappointed,” Appiah admitted in an interview with Asempan FM. “For the first time, we didn’t win a single game in the qualifiers, but the players are determined to make amends.”

Appiah praised the team’s determination and focus, evident in their training sessions. “The way they’ve been training shows they’re hungry for victory. They want to prove themselves after the AFCON qualification failure.”

Ghana will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 22, before traveling to face Madagascar in Morocco. Head coach Otto Addo and his players will conclude their training sessions today in preparation for the crucial encounter.
