Black Satellites Salvage Draw Against Benin In their WAFU Zone B Opener
The head coach of the Black Satellites, Desmond Offei has expressed his delight with the performance of his team that salvaged a point in their WAFU Zone B U-20 qualifiers against Benin.
The match, held at the Stade de Kegue in Togo, showcased the Satellites’ determination as they battled back to secure a vital point.
In a post-match interview, Coach Offei expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, despite believing his team deserved all three points.
“With a bit of luck, we should have gotten the three points, but I’m really happy with the one point. For me, this point is actually like three, given the effort we put in to come back.”
Ghana struck first in the 14th minute with a goal from Jerry Afriyie. However, Benin quickly responded, with Modeste Konoudji equalizing with a stunning header just before the half-hour mark. The French side took the lead shortly before halftime, leaving Ghana in a tough position.
As the clock ticked down, it looked like Ghana might leave empty-handed. Yet, in a dramatic turn of events, Afriyie converted a penalty in the 92nd minute, clinching a hard-earned draw.
Looking ahead, Ghana will face Niger on Sunday, October 20, at the Stade Municipal, while Benin will meet hosts Togo at the same venue later that evening. With both teams eager to secure crucial points, the upcoming matches promise to deliver more excitement in the tournament.
