
The 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw has been concluded, and Ghana’s U20 national team, the Black Satellites, have discovered their group opponents.
In a reaction to the draw, head coach Desmond Ofei expressed his relief at avoiding the formidable Group B.
Group B features an intimidating lineup, comprising Egypt, Nigeria, and South African and Morocco. Coach Ofei acknowledged the challenges that this group poses, implying that his team has dodged a bullet.
The Black Satellites have been drawn into Group A, where they will face host nation Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, DR Congo and yet to named country from the UNIFFAC zone.
Group C has a the likes of Zambia,Senegal,Kenya and Sierra Leone.
While the group is still highly competitive, Coach Ofei seems optimistic about his team’s prospects.
Coach Ofei sharing thoughts on the draw said: “We’re happy that we’re not in group B because that’s a very interesting group. I feel like we’re in a position where we can control the narrative of this tournament from our perspective,” he told Joy News.
“The only downside is that we’re in a group of five and we would have to play one extra game compared to the other groups but in all I think we’re in a good position to manage the situation and the narrative quite well.”
Coach Ofei emphasized the importance of thorough preparation, stating that his team will focus on building their strength and strategy ahead of the tournament.
High Expectations for Ghana’s U20 Team
Ghanaian football fans are eagerly anticipating the 2025 U20 AFCON, hoping that the Black Satellites will make a significant impact. With Coach Ofei at the helm, the team is poised to make a strong showing in the competition.
The tournament is scheduled to commence from April 26 with the final slated for May 18 with 13 teams competing in this year’s edition.
