“Black Queens Safe in Qatar” – Ablakwa Assures Nation Amid Middle East Tensions

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the nation that the Ghana women’s national football team, popularly known as the Black Queens, are safe and well in Qatar amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Minister disclosed that he had personally engaged with the leadership of the team to ascertain their wellbeing.

“Ghana’s celebrated Black Queens are safe and doing well. I have spoken with the leadership of the team,” he stated.

Mr. Ablakwa further revealed that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United Arab Emirates has been in constant communication with the team, providing the necessary consular assistance to ensure their safety and comfort.

“Our diplomatic mission in the UAE has been in close contact with the Black Queens extending much needed consular support,” he added.

The Minister emphasized that in what he described as a turbulent period in the region, the government remains fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all Ghanaian nationals abroad, particularly those currently in the Middle East.

“In this turbulent moment, the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians, particularly those currently in the Middle East, remains our utmost priority,” he assured.

The statement is expected to calm public concerns back home following reports of escalating tensions in parts of the region, where the senior women’s national team is currently based.
