Bjorkegren Takes Charge: Swedish Tactician Unveiled as Black Queens Head Coach

Kim Lars Bjorkegren has been officially unveiled as the new head coach of the Black Queens, Ghana’s senior women’s national team. The ceremony, held in Accra, marked the beginning of a new era for the team, following the departure of former coach Nora Hauptle.

Bjorkegren, a seasoned Swedish tactician, brings a wealth of experience to the role. With 18 years of coaching under his belt, he has developed a reputation as a skilled and innovative coach.

His impressive CV includes stints in Sweden, China, and the United States of America, where he has consistently demonstrated his ability to achieve success.

The Swedish coach has achieved notable success in his career, including winning the Cyprus Women’s League with Apollon Ladies and the Swedish Damallsvenskan with Linköpings FC. These accomplishments have solidified his reputation as a top-class coach.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials from the Ghana Football Association, including Executive Council Members Gideon Fosu and Samuel Aboabire.

General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Technical Director Professor Joseph Mintah, and assistant coach Anita Wiredu Mintah were also in attendance, welcoming Bjorkegren to his new role.

The most important aspect of my job is to visit all the players, watch games, and help them improve,” Bjorkegren said at the unveiling.

“I can see so much talent in this country, so I am really sure that, in the short term, we have the potential to be successful. In the long term, I can always guarantee that we will be successful.” He added.

With Bjorkegren at the helm, the Black Queens are poised to embark on a new journey, filled with excitement and promise. His expertise and experience are expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to the team, as they strive to achieve greatness on the international stage.

As Bjorkegren begins his tenure as head coach, expectations are high among fans and stakeholders. The Black Queens have a rich history of success, and Bjorkegren will be tasked with restoring the team to its former glory.

Bjorkegren will in the coming days, travel with the team to Morocco for a 10-day tour where they will play an international friendly against the national team of Morocco and a club side in Casablanca.

His focus will then shift to preparing the team for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled for July 2025 in Morocco.
