Bismark Kobbie Mensah Praises Black Stars’ Unity Cup Performance

Former Black Galaxies assistant coach Bismark Kobbie Mensah has commended the Black Stars for their performance in the Unity Cup, despite a narrow 2-1 loss to Nigeria.

Ghana’s defeat came courtesy of Cyriel Dessers’ goal and an unfortunate own goal by Razak Simpson, although substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante pulled one back for Otto Addo’s side.

Mensah expressed optimism about the team’s showing, particularly given the number of new players introduced to the squad.

“I think the Black Stars did well yesterday,” he said. “Considering the number of new players who were given a chance, the team didn’t perform badly at all.”

Mensah attributed Nigeria’s win to their clinical edge in the opening half. “Ghana lost because Nigeria had a very good first half; they took their chances,” he added.

The loss means Ghana will now face Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff, while Nigeria advances to the final against Jamaica on Saturday, May 31.

Despite the defeat, Mensah’s positive assessment suggests a promising future for the Black Stars.
