GFA Urged to Enforce Strict Venue Standards in Ghana Premier League
Berekum West MP Dickson Kyere Duah has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to restrict Ghana Premier League matches to only high-standard venues, emphasizing that stadiums lacking proper infrastructure and security measures should not be allowed to host games.
This stance follows the league’s resumption after a temporary suspension caused by the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Pooley Frimpong at Nsoatreman FC’s home ground.
Kyere Duah stressed that a venue’s design plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, and only facilities that meet strict standards should be used.
“Facilities that are not fit for purpose should not be allowed to host matches,” he said, highlighting the importance of stadium architecture and structure in contributing to security.
The MP believes that if only six or seven stadiums meet the required standards, other teams should be compelled to move to such facilities. This move would prioritize safety and security over convenience or tradition.
Asante Kotoko currently lead the league table with 42 points, holding a slim one-point advantage over Bibiani GoldStars.
With the league’s competitiveness and stakes high, enforcing strict venue standards will be crucial in ensuring player and spectator safety.
