Benjamin Asare Pledges Stronger World Cup Showing After Super Clash Heroics

Benjamin Asare has vowed to build on his impressive form as he targets a bigger impact for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper made the pledge after delivering another assured performance between the posts, guiding his side to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.

A first-half header from Baba Adamu proved decisive in a tense contest that saw Hearts finish with ten men following the dismissal of Emmanuel Amankwah. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Asare’s composure and crucial interventions preserved the Phobians’ slender lead.

Having already earned praise for his displays during Ghana’s qualifying campaign and recent friendly matches, the shot-stopper is determined to maintain his upward trajectory on football’s biggest stage.
“I hope to continue these performances at the World Cup,” Asare said in an interview with Asempa FM.

Reflecting on the Kotoko clash, he emphasized the team’s mentality and desire.
“It was a good game, but we were determined to win. The focus and commitment made the difference.”

Asare also dismissed suggestions that his standout display was influenced by the presence of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and members of the national team’s technical staff.

“They had no hand in my performance. I was fully focused on delivering for Hearts of Oak. I only realised after the match that they had come to watch.”

Hearts of Oak will now turn their attention to Matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League, where they host Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium this weekend, aiming to extend their recent positive run.
