Benjamin Asare Champions Local Players’ Cause, Urges Opportunities in Black Stars
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has made a passionate plea for local players to be given a chance to shine in the Black Stars.
Asare’s call comes on the heels of his impressive debut for the national team in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Asare, 32, kept a clean sheet in the Black Stars’ 5-0 thrashing of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by another impressive display in the 3-0 win over Madagascar.
His outstanding performances have earned him recognition, with Black Stars coach Otto Addo confirming that Asare will remain the first-choice goalkeeper.
Speaking to 3Sports, Asare emphasized that local players deserve a platform to showcase their talents if they are performing well.
“If a local player is good, he deserves a platform,” he said. Asare’s sentiments reflect the determination of local players to fight for their place in the Black Stars.
Asare’s success has helped break down barriers, challenging the perception that local players face difficulties making it into the national team.
“Sometimes people think once you are a local player, the national team will be difficult, but we are very determined,” he added.
With his position as first-choice goalkeeper secured, Asare is expected to start against Chad and Mali in the next round of qualifiers in September.
As the Black Stars continue their World Cup qualifying campaign, Asare’s story serves as a beacon of hope for local players, inspiring them to strive for excellence and seize opportunities to represent their country.
