Bechem United have confirmed the appointment of experienced tactician Kobina Amissah as their new head coach, AhotorSports can confirm.

The 58-year-old gaffer, a household name in Ghanaian football circles, takes over immediately and will be tasked with steering the Hunters away from the relegation zone in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Club Statement

The club acted swiftly to fill the vacancy created by the dismissal of Desmond Issah-Botchway, who was sacked on Monday, November 3, after a dismal run of form. Issah-Botchway’s assistant, Bright Anthony Konadu, was also relieved of his duties as part of the managerial clear-out.

Bechem United’s struggles have been stark this campaign: just one victory from their first eight league outings, leaving them languishing in the bottom three with a mere five points.

Their most recent result—a frustrating 0-0 stalemate at home to Nations FC on November 2—served as the tipping point for the club’s hierarchy, who cited a lack of progress and mounting pressure from supporters as key factors in the decision.

Amissah brings a wealth of top-flight experience to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. He is fondly remembered for masterminding Bibiani GoldStars’ fairy-tale promotion to the Ghana Premier League in the 2020/21 Division One League season, where his side clinched the Zone II title with a game to spare.

His coaching CV is extensive and varied. He led Elmina Sharks during their brief stint in the top tier, focusing on youth development. At Sekondi Hasaacas, a giant of Western Region football, Amissah honed his tactical acumen in high-stakes derbies.

He also contributed to Berekum Chelsea’s consistent mid-table finishes and occasional cup runs in the early 2010s.
