The Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Hon. Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over his State of the Nation Address delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Contributing to the debate on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, the Ejisu legislator said he and his colleagues had expected the President to present what he described as a truthful account of the country’s current condition. According to him, the address failed to reflect the realities confronting ordinary Ghanaians.
Hon. Kwabena Boateng argued that the true state of the nation is not captured in speeches but in the economic hardship being experienced daily. He maintained that the real measure of the country’s condition can be seen “in the pockets of Ghanaians” and at the marketplaces, where rising costs continue to burden citizens.
The MP also expressed strong concern over the recent cocoa price cut, describing it as a major setback for farmers. As the son of a cocoa farmer, he said he understands firsthand the struggles producers face and believes government has a responsibility to shield them, especially when global market prices decline.
He called for what he termed a fair and mutually beneficial relationship between cocoa farmers and the state, insisting that farmers must not be left to bear the brunt of economic challenges alone. According to him, the current arrangement appears to favour government more than the hardworking farmers who sustain the cocoa sector.
