Nigerian artist Burna Boy recently shared a cryptic message on social media, urging his peers to be more authentic in 2025.
On December 30, 2024, he posted on Instagram saying, “If you ever lied about owning Sujimoto’s house in Banana while only renting it, do better in 2025. If you claimed Elele’s house as yours, do better in 2025. If you’re driving an aftermarket ‘rainbow Daytona,’ please stop pretending it’s genuine. Do better in 2025. It should be considered a criminal offence to tell as many lies as some men do. The list goes on and on.” (The message was accompanied by a New Year’s effect.)
His post quickly sparked conversations online, with many users criticizing him for throwing shade without naming names.
One Instagram user commented, “Even Akpi mentions names boldly. ODG, you can do better too.”
Another user added, “Burna seems to be ranting about not releasing an album in 2025 after his lead singles ‘Higher’ and ‘Fumble’ flopped.”
Some commenters speculated that Burna’s remarks were aimed at his fellow artist Davido, claiming it was a thinly veiled attack.
One user cautioned, “Stop using DAVIDO to seek attention.”
Another expressed frustration, stating, “Just drop your song and move on! There’s no need to chase clout with David’s name before releasing a project. It’s starting to look like an obsession! Why can’t you just focus on your work?”
One fan humorously remarked, “Davido might just sue Burna for defamation.”
