The Member of Parliament for the South Tongu Constituency Kobla Mensah Woyome has taken a swipe at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his inaugural address since assuming leadership of NPP.
In an interview on Ahotor 92.3 Fm‘s afternoon Political show “Simpieso“, the South Tongu Constituency MP said the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia failed to do due diligence by analyzing his policies before outlining them.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday 7th February at the Kofi Ohene Konadu auditorium, UPSA campus established the tone for his political campaigns.
According to Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, the Vice President just needs to be truthful and take responsibility as part of the people who created the mess the country is facing.
“Ghanaians are not asking Angels to come serve the country. Serving with the truth at all times helps the government to come together with citizens to review policies even if they have not been able to meet their expectations and are facing some challenges. Rather than implementing Policies without studying the policy’s effects under his governance” he told Emmanuel Martey.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia was fully in support of all the taxes, VAT, and E-Levy being passed in the Akufo-Addo-led government.
“Bawumia was the one who stated that the withdrawal of a hundred cedis should be free from E-levy to help other citizens. This is the same person who was in support of the bill being passed under his government as Vice President of the country and couldn’t do anything to help abolish those bills and is waiting for his term in office as the president before he abolishes it?” he questioned.
Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome opined that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shouldn’t have used the role of a carmate when outlining his policies for the 2024/2025 election campaign.
“In most cases as the driver and the mate, the mate has more control and also helps shape the driver when going wayward. If the Vice President can’t shape or assist the president in the right path then I think there is no need to see himself as the mate of the country as he stated” Hon. Woyome said.
